Think-Design-Test-Create

  • Description:

You have been working for a BigDeal, a large brokerage house, for several years as a project manager. You have been assigned by your boss, the head of the Project Management Office, to a new project that will change the way that Human Resources interacts with prospective and current employees. While it is true that you have been working for some time for this company, you have not worked with anyone from Human Resources other than when you were hired or when you needed to change your W2.

As part of the documentation that your boss has given you is a list of contacts for this project. They include:

  • Stanley Summers – Vice President of Human Resources.  Stanley was brought into the company from a position as Assistant Vice President of HR from a large competitor of BigDeal four years ago. Prior to that he was employed at two other companies with increasing reponsibility. He has since been involved with redefining what is meant by HR inside of BigDeal. His PHD from Harvard has helped him to reach this point in his career at the age of 35.
  • Jan Salas – Accounting director.  Jan is a long time employee. She has a reputation of being strictly honest when dealing with money and has gone to bat for the employees she manages. She is viewed by them as a ‘wonderful boss’ and has been described by them as such in their quarterly reviews of her.
  • Gertrude Heskelsen – IT director.  Gertrude is a native of Denmark. Prior to working for BigDeal she worked as an IT assistant director for the largest brokerage house in Copenhagen. She appears to be open and a nice person as well as very knowlageable about most aspects of IT with deeper knowledge of Network design and implementation.
  • Sarah Quan – Development Manager.  Sarah is known as a ‘go getter’ within the company and has risen quickly from an engineering position to be one of the development managers in the company.
  • Joe Jones – Quality Assurance Manager.  Joe was assigned to be a QA manager from his position as a development manager six months ago. He had been with the company in that position for two years.
